Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I would describe our students as high energy and lots of fun. We are a high poverty school with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
As an IB school, all of our students participate in the arts program.
Many make presents for their families and use their art projects to decorate their homes.
We were just named a Center for Excellence by the Colorado Department of Education. Our school and students beat the ‘Odds’ when it comes to academic growth. Above our entrance you can read, “The future walks through our doors every day.”
My Project
When we get back in the fall we would like to get to work on our community service project. We will be making packages of cards for seniors in local retirement centers. These will be cards and envelopes the seniors can send to friends and relatives. While seniors enjoy sending and receiving cards the cost is often prohibitive. We would like to ease that burden while bringing joy to local seniors. We help create world citizens by instilling a sense of community service in our students. Please help us get the materials need to bring this project to life.
