Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm a 2nd grade teacher who loves making a difference in my students' lives every day. Although, I teach in a low-income school, my students come excited to learn each day! Many of them are faced with difficult challenges both in and out of the classroom. They struggle with shared rent, housing space, healthy food choices, and language barriers. Despite the many challenges they face, they are working hard to further their academics.
My students are very enthusiastic and eager learners who have the potential to achieve greatness if given the opportunity.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free or reduced price lunch (about 85% of our families) daily. They are sweet and caring students who are excited to discover what each day brings. Many times, our school becomes the only stable place for them. They feel safe and welcomed here and for many of them their life outside of school is so unstable and uncertain.
I think all students deserve the chance to succeed, dream big, and follow their dreams.
My Project
Students are encouraged to freely express their own artistic vision when creating their watercolor artwork. They will be able to create mosaics, watercolor pictures, collages, and other masterpieces and show them off with the "Look What I Made" Art Frames.
The watercolor pallets and paper will help students to develop color mixing concepts, lessons on different artists and their preferred medium, and an understanding of watercolors (the challenges, difficulties, and techniques) while creating unique artwork.
Last, students will gain confidence and self pride by making their own watercolor artwork. They will also develop their own personal style and artistic touch to their masterpieces!
