A large portion of my students come from low-income households. Many of these students do not have the ability to explore interests outside of the classroom. My goal is to create a classroom that encourages my students' sense of wonder, creativity, and critical thinking. I want to help them develop a life-long love of learning.
My 6th grade students are bright, inquisitive, and excited about their learning.
They have so many questions about the world around them and I want to help them discover as much as they can. My students learn better when they can put their hands on it. They learn better when they can touch it and see for themselves how it works. I have requested markers and liquid watercolors to help them create art journals. We do something different every day that encourages creativity while bringing mankind and our planet to the fringes of their minds. The canvases will be used to create an original masterpiece that they can hang proudly at a location of their choice. want to provide them with hands-on investigations that will deepen their understanding about the world around them and encourage them to want to learn more.
My Project
The resources that I have selected will be used every day of the school year. I teach reading/English as well as art. We do a lot of projects in ELA that require art supplies. Students seldom have these supplies of their own so in order to complete these projects, I need to provide them.
Allowing students to be creative opens up a whole new world to them!
Having the necessary supplies makes that possibility a reality. They will benefit throughout the entire year with the products made possible through this grant. It is a true blessing to have this opportunity.
By making art journals, all of their artwork is in one, safe place and allows them to continue creating and adding work to their books. They love watching them get thicker as the class goes along. The items I've requested through this grant - markers, watercolors, and paints - will give them a variety of medium to work with and get exposure to. It's hard to believe how many 6th graders have never painted! They can experiment and find ways to let their creativity shine through. I've never been able to provide canvases due to their cost, but if I'm approved for this grant, my students will all be able to make something that they can really be proud of!
