Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children learn when they are being creative. They talk to each other about their creations and learn concepts while they are having fun. I want my students to have access to art supplies that they can use in the Spring when they are learning all about insects, fish and frogs.

Our school is located in a low income community in California.

The school is a title one school. My students are 24 enthusiastic, motivated kindergarten and first graders who come to school ready to learn everyday. They love being creative and enjoy learning about the world around them. I would like them to have access to art materials they can use during science to enhance their learning. My students are learning another language as they learn the curriculum for their grade level. I have found that art creates language. My students would love learning about insects, frogs and fish while creating diagrams, reports and models. They can use art in small groups and work collaboratively to present their work to their classmates.

My Project

My students need blue, orange, and lime construction paper to create insects, fish and frogs which they will be learning about during Spring. My students will use these materials during small group and collaborate while they create habitats and models of the animals. I would like them to have the insect specimen set to discover the parts of insects they may not readily see when they encounter them in nature. By having these models they can create questions they may have to be answered. They will learn information about each animal in order to know how to respect and appreciate their role in nature. I'd also like them to have fish and butterfly shape kits and gems so they can decorate and use to enhance their writing pieces. In addition, I'd like a mobile drying rack so their work does not get damaged in the drying process. The laminating pouches will be used to make covers for their science journals for this unit.

My students would love these wonderful materials while they are learning Science.

I know they will enhance their creativity. They will be incorporating art to their informational writing, diagrams, and models. By helping us fund our project you will help my students develop their language, knowledge of nature and collaborative skills. Art always makes everything more enjoyable for children.
