I have been teaching at the same Title I school for the last 17 years and every year is better than the last. If I had to describe my students in one word, it would be amazing! They are determined, dedicated, enthusiastic, and engaged. We are in the midst of our year long journey of learning full of new experiences and challenges. I know that they are willing to work hard, take risks and make incredible progress.
Every year I teach my students important information like how to read and write and do math problems but in the end, they teach me some pretty important things, too.
Like how to enjoy the moment, show empathy and understanding for each other during difficult times, be flexible, conquer challenges, power through difficult situations and how to be resilient. I am lucky to have them!
My Project
I teach kindergarten inclusion - which means about half of my students receive special education services for academic, behavioral and physical needs. They are a diverse group with a variety of personalities!
All of my students love being creative and making masterpieces!
Every week we try to do one project related to our weekly theme. This allows my students who struggle with language or academics to show what they know in a way that doesn't require language. Sometimes they can't tell me about our topic, but they can show me about it with their art. Because our projects and creations are unique to the students, they are free to interpret the project any way they want. We may have one theme or idea, but 20 different projects that are as unique as the children themselves.
These art supplies and craft materials would help us be able to have more opportunities to make things and allow the students a surplus of materials that they might otherwise not have access to.
This big box of materials would give us the materials necessary to make picture frames, self-portraits, animal collages, paper sculptures and more! The paint brushes would replace our old splintered wooden brushes and the dot markers would be used in our art projects.Thank you for considering our project for more art materials!
