My students come from all over the world, from different families and financial backgrounds, but they have one thing in common. They all LOVE learning! Our school is at the edge of a rural city a block from the beach, and it serves a diverse group of children from 23 different countries. Of my 17 students, 12 are English Language Learners, and more than half receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My class is a vibrant group of learners who are excited by project-based learning activities and love to create, explore, and manipulate, and share their learning with others.
They are engineers, architects, problem-solvers, team players, makers, creators, and hands-on learners. They are energetic, silly, and extremely active children who love to get up and move. They make me excited to come to work each day!
My Project
My students love to express themselves and their learning in so many different ways. Some students love to write, some like to build using hands-on materials, some like to create using visual representations, and others like to showcase their learning in a completely different manner! Whatever it is, I would like to have the materials at their disposal so that they are not limited in the ways they can express themselves.
When students are able to express their learning in a way that best suits them, they are more confident and the learning becomes much more meaningful.
They feel a connection to what they are learning and internalize it more because of that. Having sharp pencils, glue sticks and masking tape to create and build with and a laminator so students can preserve work that they are proud of will help build lifelong learners who are excited to come to school and excited to talk about what they are learning at home.
