My Students
I am a teacher in a Title I School. The majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Most students that attend my school have limited resources. At the start of our school year, we were devastated by Hurricane Harvey. The neighborhoods that surround my school were faced with high flooding waters that were rising so rapidly. Most of my students experienced flood waters in their homes. Due to Hurricane Harvey, we had to miss days of school, so that we could figure out how to handle this major catastrophic event that occurred. When the first day of school began for the second time, my students came back ready to learn. I was surprised at the way they handled this destructive event. This is when I knew that I have a special group of kids that are determined to learn, no matter what they are faced with.
My students are special to me because I can see the drive in their eyes and they are depending on me to provide them with the tools they need in order to learn.
I don’t want Hurricane Harvey to hinder my children from becoming lifelong learners.
My Project
My students love to read. One of their favorite books to read is Mary Had a Little Lamb nursery rhyme book.
I am requesting a laminating machine and nursery rhyme books.
Students will have the opportunity to read their favorite nursery rhyme book. They will then create their own book. Students can create their own books and use themselves as the main characters. Once the pages of the book are completed the students will be able to laminate the pages in their books. The laminating will make the pages in the books last a lifetime.
This project will provide students with a keepsake that they can treasure for the rest of their lives.
