Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My name is Miss Pope and I am a PE teacher who teaches all students from TK-6th grade. Each week, I see half of the students of the school and my time is limited to 45 minute blocks. In those 45 minutes, it is my job to lead stretching, warm ups, laps, and explain lessons while still allowing time for their actual activity. My students are awesome and have almost all gotten our normal routine down!
However, we do not have a gym at our school, or a lot of space for all of the different PE classes, and kids at recess.
This causes a lot of distractions when trying to explain a lesson and for myself to have to yell over all of the noise of the recess/lunch kids. Our students would greatly benefit from having a portable whiteboard to look at with instructions, standards and key questions for their daily lessons so they have something to look at while I am explaining and can refer to throughout their class.
My Project
In Physical Education, students are encouraged to run around, play and get out all of their built up energy they hold onto throughout their classes. However, in today's world of technology with a rising rate of childhood obesity, it isn't always the easiest task to motivate students to want to be active or teach the importance of living healthy and active lifestyles. At my school, we have many little athletes but not enough time to really dive into each lesson thoroughly. With this portable whiteboard we will be able to bring the classroom outside so that they can visualize and read what their agenda is, what the lesson will be, and what importance or key concepts each lesson provides so that they can read along rather than be distracted with all of the other grade levels being outside at recess and lunch.
