Help me give my students tools to be successful IB Learners. When they get choice in their seating, with the Learning Chairs, books, and headphones they can produce their best work.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first-year teacher and my goal is to create a welcoming and comforting learning environment for my students. The students in my class are hard workers and want to learn. They value their education. My students spend 8 hours at school, 4 day a week. I want my students to leave each day with the mindset that their learning was fun, meaningful, and it will stick with them far after their third grade year. My students attend a lottery charter school because they want to be immersed in the IB School System. Located in Boise, Idaho our town and classrooms are filled with students from different backgrounds. I truly love the diversity of the classroom because it allows my students to learn and grow from each other.
I want to set my third graders up for success in the classroom and know they are loved.
This project would aide in creating a healthy learning environment for all students. I believe that if I set my students up for success on day one it will reap the benefits for the rest of their educational careers. I want to build that foundation for them.
My Project
Creating an IB Learner, is creating a forever learner. The materials in my project focus on student engagement and understanding. As you can see I have seats, that allow for my energetic students to always be moving, but still focused on the lesson. I have headphones, to block out the noise for the students who need a quiet learning environment. Lastly, I have books to show my students what it means to embody the 10 learner profile traits of an IB Learner.
We have to model what we ask of our students, these materials do that for my students.
The books show them what it looks like to be caring, a risk-taker, open-minded, and reflective. The chairs and headphones create an environment where they can showcase those traits. I want to give my students tools to be successful, I believe that these materials will do that for them.
