I work in a public school in Stamford, CT. The middle school I teach at has over 750 scholars. Our building is highly diverse, with a significant percentage of English Language Learners and scholars who receive free and reduced lunch. We have over 25 nationalities represented to form a building that celebrates our similarities and differences. We have students from both higher and lower socio-economic areas, so equity is important to ensure all students have a chance to be successful.
Technology integration can transform learning in the class to create meaningful and memorable experiences for our scholars.
My building administrators have a scholar first philosophy and provide me with autonomy to teach scholars in a way that works best with their learner profile. My responsibility is to empower scholars by forming meaningful relationships built on trust to get the best out of each and every one. Once this is established, we can take learning to the next level with focused technology integration. I can harness the power of student voice to allow scholars the autonomy to demonstrate understanding how they see fit. My scholars are digital natives and as an educator, I must meet them where they are.
My Project
As a pedagogical leader, I believe in the power of purposeful technology integration to enhance the teacher's role in ways that were never possible before. By having access to Chromebooks, scholars can share assignments, resources, create digital portfolios, and engage parents to make them a partner in their child's learning. Creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication will take center stage.
For example, my scholars will use Google Classroom and the google apps for education.
Using tools such as Google Hangout, my students can connect locally and globally to discuss projects, books they've read, create service projects, connect with authors, and discuss common curriculum to extend beyond the four walls of our classroom and have an authentic audience, which can then be shared with parents, ensuring they are a valued part of their child's education. We are an International Baccalaureate School, so being open minded, principled, inquirers, and risk takers can all tie into technology integration.
By donating to this classroom project, you are allowing students with opportunities to take their learning to the next level!
