Creating an Eco-Friendly School Culture
My students need various sized recycling wastebaskets to promote our school-wide recycling program.
Oftentimes, we are so focused on teaching students core subjects that we forget to teach them about sustainability and the environment. These are equally important topics in to ensure the future of our planet and children.
My students live in the inner city with minimal contact with nature.
Their neighborhoods consist of mostly large buildings, trash-filled streets, and few trees. Recycling and the environment are of low priority because the majority of my students are low-income and live in apartments. The attend a public urban school with a small student population of 425 students. With our small school environment, we are able to provide students with greater personalization in terms of academics and social support.
I am the sponsor of our school's longest running student club, the environmental club. In our first year, the students and I created the school-wide recycling program, which was very successful and inspired nearby schools to do the same. However, in the past year, I've noticed that fewer students are interested in the environment and lack an environmental awareness. Our club membership has weakened. The new recycling wastebaskets that I am requesting will be used in our schoolwide campaign to revitalize our recycling program and environmental consciousness. Students will create posters to educate and promote what can be recycled at school and make presentations in classrooms on how to recycle on our campus.
Your donation to help us purchase recycling wastebaskets and trash bags will inspire and encourage my students to take an active role in creating a more environmentally conscientious school culture.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
