“Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.”
- Maya Angelou
What better to encourage children to read than to make books more assessable by displaying them in an easy and attractive manner!
I am a 25 year veteran teacher.
We are a small primary Pre-K to 2 school in southern Virginia. We live in a small diversified community with students ranging from military dependents, special needs and moderate to low poverty levels. Second grade classes are mixed-ability where reading levels vary from pre-reading to reading well beyond grade level. Our moderately income based school often gets left out of funding because we do not qualify for Federal money, and have very limited resources in our community to help teachers out.
My Project
We have been so fortunate to receive many books from Donor's Choose. However, my classroom does not have enough bookcases to hold and display the books. I am asking for two additional display cases so that my children can view the books and see what's available for them to read. These cases will give me the flexibility to group my books by fiction and nonfiction. It would give me a better place to display the class's magazines and protect them from getting ripped and folded. The revolving bookcase will allow for access so my reading duos(same books)can find multi-copy books all ready for them to partner read.
With your generous donations, these book display cases will make it easier for my children to view and pick the 'just right books' they need to add to their browsing boxes for independent reading time.
