My students are bright-eyed and full of energy each day they walk through the doors of my classroom. Success for my students means making improvement, and they are improving each and every day.
Approximately 65% of the students in my school receive free or reduced price lunch.
Despite having to face the burdens of poverty, my students enjoy having high quality materials while at school, and my goal is to provide them with the best experience possible. We just need a little help to make that possible!
My Project
I would like to get copies of each of the 2018-2019 Eliot Rosewater (Rosie) Book Award nominees for my student's to read this year. I recently found out that I will be moving grade levels this year from 6th grade to 8th grade. In 8th grade, Pre-AP (advanced) students at my school are required to read a certain number of books from the Young Hoosier nominees list and the Rosie nominees list. The Rosie list is intended for high school students, but we realize that these books appeal to our 8th grade students.
Since this will be my first year teaching 8th grade, I am trying to build a classroom library with books that fall within the interest range of 8th grade students.
While reading books from these two lists will be a requirement for my Pre-AP class this year, I hope that these books will be a resource for my students for years to come.
