This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is working to create vertical learning thinking classrooms. What this means is scholars will use various vertical learning surfaces to work through math problems that are designed to get them thinking. They work in groups and individually at white boards and even windows around the room to solve verbal word problems. The dry erase markers I’m asking for will help facilitate learning using the dry erase boards around the room. The dry erase clipboards will also allow scholars to think their work through and be able to share it with others in their group and the classroom.

Our vertical classrooms allow both myself, the teacher, and the scholars to see how others are thinking through their work.

It builds collaboration and team work. It also involves deeper thinking than just memorizing math facts and engages them making math fun. Our class does end of unit projects to help clarify and enrich their learning on the topic using arts and crafts. The water color paints will help my scholars create those math art projects. These art related math projects allow scholars the opportunity to connect the analytical side of math to the artistic side of math.

The games will be used to give scholars a “break” but still allow them to access their analytical side by building and creating shapes and patterns. Which will in turn continue to build their out of the box thinking.
