My students need the 6 Hokki stools to give them the opportunity to learn in an environment that is flexible and active. These stools will allow for flexible grouping.
Have you recently sat in a classroom chair? They are uncomfortable, cumbersome, and dangerous if you try to move in them much. Classroom learning is flexible and dynamic and traditional chairs no longer meet these needs or the needs of my students.
My students are amazing!
I work in a resource room setting with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, other health disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disabilities. I work with students in grades 5 and 6. My students are just starting their experience in Middle School and I work hard as a teacher to make their transition a great one. They need a classroom that is inviting, structured, and allows for their individual needs.
My Project
Many of my students benefit from extra movement during the day. Movement helps them to focus, concentrate, and attend to task. Typical class chairs can be a danger to some students as they try to tip or rock them to expend their extra energy or to concentrate on their work. The Hokki stools would allows them to "wiggle" safely and without bothering others. The stools are also easy to move which would allow them to move them to various work stations in my classroom and find the best spot for them.
This project would greatly benefit my students.
There is extensive research on the power of movement in the classroom. Many classrooms have switched to yoga balls. These can be very difficult for my students at times to use correctly and they can roll around on them accidentally which is unsafe on a tile floor. The Hokki stools were built with students' safety in mind.
