Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are resilient and persevere through the many obstacles they face. Our community is rich with diversity, creativity, and love. However, 95% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and face many socio-economic challenges. Research done in our community shows that 100% of our student population reports having experienced at least 1 traumatic event and endorse an average of 7 adverse experiences.
Having access to the appropriate sensory and therapeutic tools is essential to our students' social emotional well-being and academic success.
Our district's limited funds are predominantly allocated to curriculum-based items. While we try to prioritize our students well-being, we often lack the resources to provide preventative and therapeutic supports.
