My school is in an urban district. I have two half-day integrated classrooms, meaning I have students with and without disabilities. I have 28 students, who range from ages three to five, and have a variety of learning, physical, and sensory needs.
My students are very curious and learn best through play.
They are very interested in the creative arts such as art, music, dramatic play, and sensory play. They learn best with play materials as well as supplies to promote creativity.
I intend on improving the learning environment of my students. Their environment should be a comfortable place and every child should feel represented in the classroom. I have chosen materials which we are lacking our dramatic play center, which I need to improve the their social and emotional development, as well as materials to promote diversity.
For a preschool class it is crucial to provide students with materials to support imagination, problem solving, and language, through a center based approach.
These materials will allow students to dress up in a variety of cultural clothing, use pretend play to mimic daily life skills such as cooking, building, story telling, taking care of animals. The furniture will provide students with comfortable, child sized seating. These materials represent diversity, encourage language, self regulation, and over all social emotional growth.
