We are an environmental STEM magnet school set in a rural area outside of Minneapolis/St.Paul. Our middle school serves over 500 students, and many have a long bus ride to get to school. Our focus is on hands-on learning: we are committed to providing students with opportunities for learning, both inside the classroom and outdoors in the natural world.
Our mission: students are empowered to become innovators through engaging, authentic, and developmentally appropriate opportunities, access to a strong academic foundation, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Like many districts, our school has faced funding challenges, both for basic needs and for additional learning opportunities. We are not letting these challenges impede our mission of providing quality education for all students. Teachers are constantly striving to implement real-world learning for students, with field experiences, connections with community members, and partnerships with local parks programs.
My Project
Our school is starting a Makerspace for students: a place to tinker, explore, create, and try new things. Our goal is to have a variety of items within our Makerspace to engage a wide range of students. Middle school years are challenging for many students. We are seeking to provide a space where students can find success and inspiration, challenge and growth.
Hands-on learning is key to our Makerspace!
Bloxels, Jenga, Brackits, and Cubelets in our new space will encourage play, creativity, design, and opportunities for all students in our building.
We are committed to student-centered learning spaces where collaboration takes a front row seat. This new space will allow students to work together to solve challenges, create and construct prototypes, and become inspired!
