This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember tinkering with projects as a kid? Did you ever follow your curiosity to construct something new? These are the opportunities I want to provide for my students. My students enjoy taking things apart to see how they work and being challenged to put it back together. They enjoy creating, designing, and exploring.
My students are leaders of their own learning.
Integrating science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) into the classroom is one way for them to be in charge of their own learning.
In my school, students participate in inquiry-based projects as part of the day to day curriculum. The goal is to push students to do more than they think they can. My students believe learning is a personal process of discovery and they need to be responsible for their own learning.
My Project
This project will provide authentic learning opportunities for all of my students. The products I have selected are highly engaging and can used for a variety of STEM projects. All of the products will be placed in our classroom makerspace. The space is designed with opportunities to develop different interests, passions, and strengths my students may have.
My students will be able to tinker with materials and create original designs and inventions.
They will be able to discover, construct, test, invent, and explore projects.
The materials will provide opportunities to work on 21st century job skills. My students can use these engaging materials in the classroom to further develop their imagination, collaboration with each other, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
