Creating a Makerspace with Puzzles in the Library!

My Project

Our scholars are kindergarten through fifth graders from low-income households. They are learning to enjoy learning and that it can be fun. I would like to provide them with the experience of a makerspace in our school library, starting out with puzzles. Puzzles and models encourage collaboration, math skills (pattern and shape recognition in pieces and the whole picture), problem-solving, and focusing.

Puzzles enable child development and problem-solving skills by placing puzzle pieces in the correct space.

They also help to develop cognitive skills and critical thinking skills, which are both crucial for mastery of other skills later in life. Puzzles also help with pattern recognition, memory, and fine motor skills through visual-spatial awareness.

If funded, I will set up a puzzle station makerspace in our library where our scholars can work on putting together puzzles. I am requesting several different types of puzzles, including 3-D and 4-D puzzles along with a puzzle board for storage. Completed puzzles will be displayed in our library.
