My students are from a large school district with several schools. They are special education students in a high school setting who are reading and comprehending below grade level. They struggle with the basics of reading, struggle with comprehension of materials in all classes, and don't have access to materials to help them excel.
My students enjoy project-based learning because they are extremely hands-on, and it is easier for them to show what they know.
They love learning about new topics, and they strive to read materials sometimes several grade levels above their reading level. They have so many positive attributes and are motivated to achieve.
My Project
Some of my students have difficulty sitting still, and some hate sitting all together. I would like to be able to allow my students to choose how they learn best and give them the opportunities to have additional seating (or standing) options within my classroom. My students have requested a tall standing table option because they sit all day and are able to think better while standing. They also asked for exercise balls for those times when they can't sit still. This will afford the opportunity to sit but also give them the movement they need to allow their brains to accept and retain knowledge.
In a world where creativity is key, these students are able to use their ideas to create projects that have meaning instead of memorizing facts.
By being able to create creative projects with paint, large paper, and crafting supplies, students are not limited to multiple choice questions, but have unlimited possibilities to enhance their knowledge on literature.
My students also requested additional books, but we don't have anymore space, so we need a new bookshelf for our room.
