Creating a Magical Environment Outside our School

Our school is committed to diversity. We provide elegant instruction for over 545 ethnically diverse, inner-city male and female elementary school children. Our classes are heterogeneously grouped and scheduled to allow for a variety of unique learning experiences. Our school recognizes the special concerns of parents, learners, and teachers and aims to create a safe environment in which children may be risk-takers. Our children come to school expecting miracles and everyone at our school tries to give them just that every day.

But we need your help! Many of our children suffer from medical problems such as diabetes, obesity, asthma, allergies, etc. The National Children and Youth Fitness Study, completed in 1987, found that at least half of youth do not engage in physical activity that promotes long term health. And, less than 36% of elementary and secondary schools offer daily physical education classes. Our school wants to change this. Currently my school has developed a physical education program to meet the needs of our children. Our goal is to provide instruction in physical activities and the care of the body. We want to physically engage our children while getting them involved in the teamwork of sports. With the increasing academic demands placed upon children today, the long hours many children spend in front of a television, the hectic schedules of their parents, and the rise of concern with safety issues many children, do not have the opportunity to enjoy recreational playtime.

Play equipment will truly benefit our children, because as our children engage in activities, they will build leadership and problem solving skills while building positive relationships with one another. The ability to interact with other children, take turns, share, lead, follow and develop sportsmanship can only happen in groups. With the support from this donation our children will become more literate, less aggressive and more socially responsive. In regard to our children’s medical conditions, a physical education program and playground will enable these children to actively take part in improving their health. They can develop their strength, endurance, agility, coordination and flexibility. As you can see, a physical education program will improve the physical, mental, social, and health developments of the children at our school.

To make this dream become a reality, I am asking for your donations to make our playtime a success for our next presidents, engineers, doctors, and athletes. The quality and compassion of a society can be readily judged by the investment it makes in its children.
