My students need Scholastic News magazines and the Reading Comprehension Games Library to enhance their understanding of reading concepts in a fun and interesting way.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you'll learn, the more places you will go."-Dr. Seuss. My students need an interactive and engaging way to excel in and create a love of reading.
I teach second grade and cover all subjects at a Title 1 school.
My students love to learn when they are having fun and when they are learning about topics they are interested in. I want my students to read because they enjoy it, not because they feel they have to. My students face many challenges outside of school and reading can give them an outlet to escape their sometimes harsh realities.
My Project
Scholastic News Articles are a great supplemental resource to reading instruction. There are many challenging reading skills students need to master to excel in reading fiction and nonfiction text. Through the use of Scholastic News articles, students will have high interest topics to enhance their comprehension and other nonfiction text skills. The articles are weekly and give students something to look forward to with a variety of topics.
The Reading Classroom Games Library is a set of board games that have a different reading skill for each game. The best way for students to learn is when they are having fun and feel in control of their learning. Through learning board games, students are improving their reading comprehension skills while playing a game. Students also learn how to work cooperatively with others and learn from each other. Learning games are a great tool to use during centers, independent practice, and as a reward.
By donating to this project, you are helping a classroom community of learning grow.
Scholastic News Articles will give students access to nonfiction text at their reading and interest level. Reading Board games allow students to learn with peers while having fun. Students' development of their love of reading will increase through text variety and the feeling of play. Students will have ownership over their learning leading them to grow in their academic confidence.
