Creating a Learning Culture Inside and Outside of Kindergarten
My students need binoculars and bins to store, wobble seats, backpack chairs and other flexible furniture to explore learning inside and outside Kindergarten.
I have the privilege of working with 17 energetic, creative and innovative children who connect globally. We enjoy exploring nature and collaborating with others globally to solve problems and share our learning. We enjoy learning and connecting with others.
My school is an amazing place because it offers all students opportunities to create, design and connect.
We have lots of opportunities to connect globally and have conversations with others through social media and blogging. We really enjoy learning about the natural world and want to find ways to solve problems that impact everyone. We have a school garden and other outside learning spaces we get to explore.
My Project
In our classroom we like to be able to move around and create our own learning spaces. When we have choices about where we want to engage in learning we are much happier because we're able to get what we need to be successful. The resources we've listed are opportunities for us to make choices about where we can read, write and explore scientific ideas to be successful. As a teacher of young children I find my students do well when they can move and choose where they wish to work. This way everyone is successful and happy.
The wobble seats, ottoman and backpack seats will give my students options about working in a smaller collaborative group on a science project. The binoculars will give us opportunities to explore the natural world and observe what is above us and around us. The bins will be great for us to store our outside learning materials. The book is great to inspire our ideas to create. We want materials to help us become flexible, collaborative and strengthen our inquiry skills.
This project is the beginning of offering my students a variety of choices and opportunities to engage and collaborate with flexible materials.
Not all children work well sitting at tables that are the same. I want to be able to offer a variety of furniture that my students can choose to use inside and outside of our classroom walls to explore the content we're learning about. Through choice and flexible furniture I offer invitations for my students to collaborate because the furniture invites this.
