Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Barnes and Noble offers comfy places to read their books because it makes reading more enjoyable... I want to create this feeling for my students in my classroom.
My first graders come from low income homes that aren't always the most comfortable and welcoming.
Our school is title 1 and predominately Hispanic and African American. Even with their home lives being hectic and most of the time unconventional, they have sweet and gentle spirits. A lot of them see school as a get away and our classroom as a safe place with a family.
My Project
With this new furniture, I hope to be able to create even more of a welcoming environment for my classroom reading area than I have currently. Providing comfy seats and designated area for them to read will encourage them to strive to reach their reading goals. Being able to have this area will offer the opportunity to those children to feel what it's like to get sucked into a good book and be free of distractions. For those students that have a welcoming reading environment at home it will be a nice home away from home. But, for those students who don't have this privilege in their own home, they will have it here in our classroom.
