Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I teach come from different backgrounds where diversity is celebrated every day! We love learning about each others' cultures and understand that our differences are what make our classroom unique.
It's wonderful to see how my students celebrate each others' success and rally around in support of each other when facing obstacles.
They are a caring and empathetic group, and we are always trying to find ways to make our learning fun and engaging!
I teach in a Tier 1 school, where over 90% of the students come from low-income families. Despite their many hardships, they come to school ready to learn every day.
My Project
Flexible seating is a great way to support a student-centered classroom. Students are given the power to take charge of their learning by choosing where they would like to learn in order to do their best. By incorporating flexible seating into our classroom, I want my students to increase their communication skills as well as better develop their decision making skills.
Being that my students come from low-income families, I know they will benefit (and greatly enjoy) this type of classroom set up.
My students have never had access to such wonderful resources, and I know that having a lap desk or a stability ball will give each student the option of choosing to work independently or with a group.
