My second grade classroom is energized with funny, highly intelligent, authentic, classy, dramatic, amazing children. They make each day fun and exciting. Because of my passion for teaching and their unique personalities, every day is filled with exploration, observations and rigorous learning connections. They are engaged fulling, teaching this group is anything but ho-hum.
I care about these cool kiddos deeply, and they know it.
Taking time to get to know them well allows me to foster a sense of belonging. They learn how to be together, how to really support one another and ways to share well. There are so many big personalities and individual learning styles we practice respecting one another to develop a supportive classroom community. Those essential building blocks allow my students to take big risks and delve deeper in their learning.
I push my students academically. They know, with my support and that of their friends (classmates) when they strive to be the best they can be every day, any obstacle can be overcome.
My Project
My students love to read and do so well with a buddy and during small group reading time. I envision a flexible reading space with giant calming color pillows for them to read together and be comfy. Developing this space will give them another way to engage with each other and their texts.
My class is hungry to learn and read.
I am excited because this center space will foster more communication among students about what they read, too. By offering a space and special time to read together, it will also help them make connections as a team to other texts and learning experiences.
