Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth grade students come from low socio-economic backgrounds with one hundred percent of the students receiving free breakfast and lunch. We are a dual language school made up primarily of Hispanic students.
My students are eager to learn and work together.
The mission of our school is to provide instruction in both English and Spanish. We purposefully focus on both languages so our students leave us able to read, write, and speak both the English and Spanish languages proficiently.
My Project
Students in my classroom need tables to work with their cooperative groups. Using the blended learning model in ELA, Math and Science, students work together and collaborate on their assignments, which is one of the 21st Century Skills I am teaching. Currently we have desks that we attempt to put together. What becomes a problem is the fact that the desks don't stay together, materials fall through where the desks are joined, and the stamina my students are trying to build gets disrupted. Students also work on their Chromebooks at their seats. The tables will provide the space that they need to have all the materials in front of them as well as a place for them to share their thoughts and ideas.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student collaboration, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
It is quite expensive to purchase all of the tables at once so I am asking for one table at a time to build our classroom. Thank you for your support in helping to bring these tables to my students.
