I believe in joyful and engaging learning in my classroom. In order to provide this type of learning environment, I use math and literacy centers to keep learning hands-on. Since there are no computers available for use, I am looking for another way to integrate technology into centers.
I have 23 first graders in my class who have diverse learning needs.
Our school recently adopted a new reading curriculum. With this curriculum came many wonderful big books. We currently have a big book stand that is is about 25 years old that is truly on it's "last leg."
Interactive writing with the children is a big part of our big book lesson. We need a big book stand that is moveable, has a large space to write on and has room for storing items that I use when reading these books.
My Project
Young children engage more with reading and writing when they have a routine in place. Having to move materials and books is very distracting to everyone involved in the lesson.
Having a book easel like this will make it easier for the children and I to engage in reading and writing activities together without interrupting the routine because of all the storage that is available for items such as markers, magnetic letters, pointers and other items needed for the lesson.
It also has rings to pocket charts on and the board itself is whiteboard and magnetic at the same time. This will make it easy to engage in interactive writing and spelling with magnetic letters.
Imagine all of the active reading and writing that will happen together as a community of learners.
