I will be teaching 10th and 12th graders at an all boys school in Detroit.
They are all young men who deserve a safe and comfy classroom, engaging instruction and access to books and learning.
It’s so important to embrace our boys with love and inspire them to reach for greatness. These young men are full of ambition and drive.
They see and experience things nobody should have to, especially not at their age.
This is my first time teaching ELA in the USA. I will be teaching 10th and 12th grade in an all-boys school in Detroit. The school is a public school and quite an old building. I really want my students to feel welcome, comfortable, inspired and safe in my room.
The futon and chair will make my reading and time-out corner complete, adding to a comfortable atmospehere.
I believe kids need to feel welcome and comfy in a classroom for them to be able to learn.
The books and shelving unit and bins will upgrade my in-class library which has already been started. Boys will have access to a wide range of books, mainly novels and literature that is not only in our academic canon but books that may speak to them. I believe everyone can read, all they need are books that interest them, engage them and a space and time to allow themselves to get lost in books.
