"If we teach today's students as we taught yesterday's, we rob them of tomorrow."--John Dewey
Fifth grade is a pivotal year for students as they prepare to enter middle school and take more ownership of their learning.
My students are curious and are always looking for ways to do things differently. Curiosity and the belief that each of us has the capacity to learn and grow is what drives my students toward success. The students in my classroom are willing to take risks for learning and do things differently even though it might be a little messy at first.
Our classroom is diverse in many ways, from ethnicity to socio-economics, but all students bring something special to our classroom. Diversity is celebrated and each child's unique background impacts the way they approach school each day. My students are continually working to better understand their own learning styles and make choices help them learn and grow.
Today's students are not like the students who were in our classrooms yesterday. This idea must be valued and taken to heart to guide our decisions and ensure we are educating students for a world we are yet to know!
My Project
Our world is changing at a rapid pace, with many organizations and businesses looking for cooperative skills. Our classroom is a space where each child learns at their own pace, but most importantly everyone is learning. This looks different each and every day, but one thing you always see is collaborative work in a flexible environment. Students will use our new rug as a space to work with one another whether it be on math, science, or even solving a classroom problem.
Students should be able to work and learn in the way that is most comfortable for them!
In our classroom this means sitting where you are comfortable while working, so the lap desks will help this be a reality. Students will be able to use the lap desks to sit around the classroom or even lay down and work. Both the rug and the lap desks will allow students to work collaboratively together and learn in the way that best fits their needs!
