Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My high school students inspire me on a daily basis. They come from a variety of backgrounds, but the one thing they share is the motivation and desire to learn. Many of my students struggle just to make it to school, but they never let their circumstances define who they are or what they are capable of.
Every day in the classroom, we explore issues of culture, race, gender, and empowerment.
Seeing these students engage with a topic and connect it to their own lives and in a bigger context to the world they live in is one of the highlights of my job.
My goal as an English teacher is to use literature to expand my students' horizons and to show them how they are connected to people all over the world through their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. These global connections in turn make them citizens of the world who leave my classroom having earned that distinction.

These materials will help my students to engage in the classroom in new and exciting ways.
They will be able to collaborate and learn while also building relationships and connecting with each other.
It is vital that students make connections with their peers, especially considering the past year of learning. Having materials that develop and enable group work, team building activities, and student to student communication are so important. Building these relationships and fostering a classroom community is what makes students excited to come to school. These materials will help to create an even more positive and interactive learning environment for all of my students.
