Our school is a small neighborhood school serving a diverse community of tightly-knit families. Many students face the challenges brought about from living in poverty. They are resilient, clever, compassionate, and absolutely delightful to work with.
My students are a deeply creative group who are eager to learn and full of dreams for the lives they will lead.
Within my classroom this year, we will focus on building a strong community of learners who support each other as they make mistakes, meet and surpass goals, and become more independent.
I strongly believe that each of my children will do amazing things with their life. It is my role to foster a love of learning, provide a safe space to explore and grow, and learn how to cope with the challenges life throws their way.
This year I will be new to second grade, and I want to be sure that my students and I have a welcoming space in which to build our classroom community. The room we will be in is in need of some color and softness to make it a more inviting learning location!
I picked a vibrant carpet for our main learning spot - we will gather there to begin each day with a fresh start in our morning meeting, and work together to expand their minds!
In addition, because I want to foster a love of reading, I selected an assortment of bright, soft pillows that students will be able to sit or lie on as they enjoy a book anywhere in the room.
