Creating 21st Century Learners One Chromebook at a Time
My students need Chromebooks to integrate 21st century learning skills into the classroom. They need to be able to read, research, write, and publish using technology.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine all of the places that technology can take you; you could learn things you didn't know, access resources with the tap of a mouse, and discover tools that make your life easier and more enjoyable. My students need the same opportunity to improve their 21st century skills using Chromebooks.
My urban middle school students are very diverse in their culture, income, and learning styles.
My school has over 70% free and reduced price lunch and about 20% of students are English Language Learners. We even have a few homeless students. Since these students do not always have the means to buy or access technology, they really rely on the school to provide technology to help them read, research, and type up written assignments. My students also need highly engaging lessons to keep them invested in their learning. Despite all of these hurdles, we also have many high achieving students in our Pre-AP program. Most of my students are enthusiastic learners, especially when technology is involved. They enjoy working in stations and particularly with Chromebooks, as they are so user friendly.
My Project
Common Core stresses fostering learners that will be able to function as 21st century learners and this includes integrating technology into the classroom whenever possible. I have gotten so much feedback from students that Chromebooks are their preferred technology for learning.
Technology makes learning more interactive and fun, and when students enjoy the learning activities, they are more invested in the lesson.
Developing 21st century skills requires access to technology on a consistent basis. Working on Chromebooks will help students' comfort level working with technology and allow more opportunity for cooperative learning stations.
One way that I try to develop these skills in my ELA classroom is by having students work in stations to either research, watch a video, or listen to a text while other students are working on other activities in small groups. Students can use Chromebooks to write, save, and publish their work. The Chromebooks are also a great resource for helping struggling readers. When the text in on a computer, students are able to listen to the text as they read and look up the meaning unknown words.
If we had our own small classroom set of Chromebooks, we would be able to do more station activities, offer support to struggling readers, give students access to educational videos, and have students practice writing and publishing their work with technology.
Although we do have some technology in our school, it is limited and it is not always easy to reserve.
