This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Middle school students are at a stage between the somewhat naive elementary years and the too-cool high school phase. This time is a turning point in their lives where they decide who they want to be.

My students are a fascinating blend of curious, silly, and insightful.

As a school in a first-ring suburb, we are fortunate enough to have a blend of racial and socioeconomic backgrounds in our school. Our school is becoming increasingly diverse, with over 47% of students of color and many hardworking scholars who commute to us from the Twin Cities. Almost 38% of students eat free or reduced-price lunches, and many come from unstable family and housing situations. I strive to make my classroom a safe and comfortable getaway for my wonderful learners.

My Project

Our school is starting a mental health resource room. We are gathering resources through grants to be able to use mood lights, exercise equipment, and other tools to give students a brain break reset if needed during the day. This project will give us some additional tools and decor for the space.

Mental health of students right now is at an all time low.

They are often feeling stressed and over-stimulated, needing an escape. Adding fidgets, aromatherapy, breathing balls, and motivational posters will give students ways to calm and refresh themselves before returning to class.
