Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How many more do I need to get to 10? What do these two numbers add up to? How much money does this cost? Counting, adding and all mathematical problem solving (money, time, fractions) are all important skills we use daily throughout our lives. This is why we need engaging math manipulatives to help us develop these essential abilities.

My students are bright, motivated and one-of-a-kind individuals.

They put a smile on my face each and every day, and they all enjoy coming to school and succeeding in the classroom. I feel so blessed to be their special education teacher and I am lucky to work in such a rewarding field.

Even though it has become extremely difficult and sometimes frustrating to educate without needed supplies, our students still come to school eager to learn. Our school rarely has extra funding for enriching material and if they do, the funds are used for older students. Many of my students' families will never have additional money to purchase educational materials; therefore, I hope to be able to provide a fun and interesting way of learning so my students can succeed in life.

My Project

My students need a storage unit with bins that is simply just for math center materials to help us stay organized and on task. Having this storage unit will allow my students to know exactly where to get their center items and the bins will allow my students to understand and see where their work for that day is. Your help with ensure that my students have the opportunity to engage in meaningful mathematic activities to expand, enrich, and extend the overall curriculum.

Math centers provide an opportunity for students to practice and apply skills and strategies taught within the classroom, the materials change regularly according to the needs of students, centers hold students accountable for the work in which they are engaged and allow teachers to assess students' math skills, strategies and understandings.

Having these resources available in our classroom each day will ensure that the children will leave my classroom with the knowledge needed to continue to be successful in the area of mathematics. With your generous support, the students' learning will be enhanced during this crucial time of learning.
