My students are a creative group with limited opportunities to experience creative spaces such as interactive museums, art museums and classes, and after-school programs. Given the opportunity to create and innovate, these students have ideas that should be explored.
Our school is located in a rural district with broad socio-economic classes, but we qualify as a Title school because of the students who qualify for free/reduced lunch.
Our small town does not contain many businesses and no large businesses, so our tax base is small. This small tax base precludes a substantial budget for exploratory or after-school programs and materials for such programs. Teachers have to rely on grants, funding sites, and the Parent-Teacher Organization to help pay for any additional materials.
My Project
These materials will be added to a collection of materials that will expand student opportunities to learn more about robotics and coding. The Cubelets give students the opportunity to design and program multiple types of robots with different types of blocks. With the Lego adapters, the Cubelets will be more flexible for students to use. The coding books can assist students with ideas and programming concepts to use with the Cubelets and the Raspberry Pi that is already in the classroom.
Students who are creative and innovative can enhance those abilities by understanding and using technology.
With opportunities in the classroom and beyond, students can be ready to compete in and contribute to our society. I would love for my students to have more experiences with coding and robotics than they currently have available! I expect them to grow with each experience!
