Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
You are not a morning person, and it's hard for you to be friendly early in the day. A teacher notices you enter the school, smiles at you and says, "Good morning!" Be friendly and greet the teacher.
My students are in a separate classroom setting as their least restrictive environment due to their behavior and lack of social skills.
They must be taught the steps to otherwise simple every day skills you and I take for granted.
When my students with behavior disorders and autism are able to practice social skills in a safe environment, take pride in their role-play and create a video to be viewed and critiqued by themselves, they learn how to become social citizens of not only our school, but our community as well.
Many of them are being raised in single parent, foster, or grandparent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. They seek attention in negative ways by behaving inappropriately. By giving them positive social skills, their behaviors will shift in healthier, more positive directions.
My Project
I will be implementing the iPads in the classroom so that students can push their innovative creativity skills and share instantly with their peers. The Apple iPad has the power to bring their biggest ideas to life. Built-in apps and software create an incredibly personal learning experience for each student; one that can be as unique as they are. iPads works wirelessly with our existing technology and makes them the perfect classroom tool. Have a great idea- share it to the board and let us all see or better yet teach what you just learned to the class instantly.
Studies have shown by incorporating the iPad system into the classroom, it increases engagement and motivation especially for my students who do not have easy access to technology.
