I teach in low socioeconomic area where we have sixty-five percent free or reduced price lunch destination. The students in my classroom have various backgrounds but one thing they have in common is that they like to be active learners! At Bellevue Elementary School, students have very few opportunities to use current technology that will inspire and challenge them to create and collaborate.
I would like to inspire creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration in my classroom.
These are skills that all students in any grade level can work on and then ultimately use as they aspire to reach whatever goals they have set for themselves to become life long learners!
My Project
I would like to purchase four Osmo kits to be used with iPads. The Osmo kits could also be shared with other teachers and grade levels in the school so that everyone has an opportunity to challenge and create with their students using this unique tool!
Osmos in the classrooms gives students an opportunity work with programs such as
Tangram to arrange wooden puzzle pieces to match on-screen shapes, animals, objects, humans and more. Students can play with a friend or challenge themselves to increasingly more difficult levels as their handiwork lights up with each victory.
With Monster, they can bring their drawings to life! Each item they draw for Mo will be magically pulled into his world. They can create animated activities to share with family and friends.
The game, Numbers, students can add, count and multiply the tiles to match the numbers on the bubbles. Popping enough bubbles will free the fish and unleash a storm of lightning and thunder! Big or small, even or odd, will you become the Numbers Master?
Osmo enables the iPads to merge the power of physical play with the digital advantages of real-time feedback. Playing beyond the screen invites students to collaborate on tables or floors while manipulating tangible game pieces such as number tiles, letter tiles and coding blocks.
