My students need 3D Pens and extra filament to apply their knowledge by creating models of their thinking.
My students are thinkers, readers, dreamers, scientists, writers, mathematicians, and genuinely the hardest working students you could ever meet. In our fifth grade classroom at a Title I school in Northern Utah they put forth their best effort in learning about the world around them. Many of my students are ELL students. Over 60% of students at our school receive free or reduced price lunch. My students come from a low socioeconomic community where technology isn't always readily available at home.
Many of my students come to school barely having their basic needs met at home, so I want to give them every chance possible to have their needs met at school.
My students deserve to have access to the tools they need to be successful in their learning. By providing engaging and educational experiences, they will grow in their learning.
This year, our school has been tasked with personalizing each student's learning in a blended environment. This means that every student is given a choice on how they learn the material, ways to practice the concepts taught, and most importantly demonstrating what they have learned. As a teacher, my job is to find ways that my students can achieve these tasks. As the year has gone on, it is becoming obvious that my students need more choices when demonstrating the key concepts they have learned.
We are requesting 3D pens and refills that my students will use to expand their options to demonstrate what they have learned by creating models of key concepts.
These pens and extra filament would be placed at a station in our classroom which will be open to students as needed.
Students will specifically use the pens to create models in Science and Math. In Math, students will build models using quadrilaterals, angles, and other shapes. In Science, the possibilities are endless! Students could create models of landforms, volcanoes, magnets, atoms, and much more. With the 3D pens, creation is the key to success!
