Create-Build-Learn: Setting the Foundation for STEM in the PRE-K Classroom
My students need all things STEM! Age appropriate tools, peg boards to practice their math skills, number robots, magnets, and other items to build and construct are all items our students can use to master STEM.
Stacia Tauscher stated, "We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.” That someone may be an inventor, a creator, a scientist, carpenter, or a mathematician.
I work with special needs preschool students from the ages of 3-5.
My students range from speech delayed to severe Autism, and everything in between. I work to create as many opportunities as I can for my students in my classroom, all while meeting each student at their developmental level. Education is fun and exciting, and I get to be the first classroom many of our future scholars will experience and I strive to make it a fun, enticing, creative, and engaging workspace for each child.
My Project
In a preschool classroom, our supplies are not desks and text books. Instead we use hands-on, fun and engaging manipulatives and toys to keep our students actively creating, exploring, and learning. With the supplies requested my students will be able to practice their counting using peg boards and number robots, learn how to use tools safely to build cars and trucks, learn how magnets work, and create pipe mazes to explore cause and effect.
Science, technology, engineering and math are all vital parts of building the foundations for our youngest learners.
Having hands on materials to manipulate, create, and play with offers opportunities for students to start using their imaginations and make learning their own.
