My Students

Did you ever wonder why you had to take Spanish? Some of my students do and this would give them the opportunity to experience Spanish culture.

We have a very diverse group of students- economically, ethnicity and ability wise.

Our school is quite large- over 3,000 students and it is the only public high school in the city. Our school is divided into small schools, but language classes are mixed. Our students are normal kids- they like to have fun and spend time with their peers. I hope this opportunity will provide students with a deeper understanding of culture and people.

My Project

Students learn and are inspired in various ways. Rachel will help motivate my students in a new way. They will learn more about Day of the Dead as well as Mexican tin art. Students will hear Rachel's story and learn about her life as a Latina artist. They will also have the opportunity to create a piece of art to take home. On another day later in the semester, students will take a Salsa dancing class from her. They will get to learn some salsa dance steps from the Cuban style of Rueda. Some students are able to connect with the language through movement and music and this is another great opportunity for my students. Experiencing culture and other aspects of the language often sparks interest in learning the language.
