Help me give my students an opportunity to further develop their coding skills while exploring engineering challenges by building and coding their LEGO creations!
Growing up in a small rural school definitely has its advantages; however, it can also limit exposure to innovative learning opportunities if we aren't determined to create them. In our fast-changing world, many of the career paths that elementary students will pursue have not yet even been imagined. As educators today, we are faced with the challenge of preparing students for future careers that don't exist today. Whatever careers they may be, we do know that communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking will be important for success.
Our students are risk-takers and problem solvers.
They are not afraid to tackle challenging situations. During recent years, we have made coding a priority in our classroom. We need more supplies to help students develop a broader skillset.
My Project
When given free choice time, our students gravitate towards coding challenges. We need more supplies to provide hands-on activities to engage all of our students while exposing them to different programming skills.
The LEGO WeDo kit will help our students tactilely explore engineering concepts while further developing their coding language and computer science skills.
As they explore modeling and prototyping, students will improve their problem-solving, critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills. They will develop persistence as they learn from their failed attempts and ultimately experience success through continued attempts and teamwork.
Coding and computer science are highly desired skills in the workforce today. Exposure today may lead to a future career for these students.
