Help me give my students tools for our upcoming engineering project. With the Create-A-Path Magnetic Center, students will be able to experiment with the effects of gravity and physics!
I teach math enrichment to elementary students in an urban setting. My goal is to make math meaningful, appealing and accessible to all students. My students enjoy games and activities that help them to practice their STEM skills.
My early learners and special needs students love hands-on projects and part of my job is to provide materials and guidance that will engage students in problem-solving tasks.
While older students and those without special needs can be more creative and use tools to create and manipulate their own materials, my students with special needs and those who have not developed the dexterity to do so will require some store-bought materials to complete similar tasks. With this scaffolding, I hope to lift all students to a level that they can have a rich educational experience
My Project
I am excited to begin the engineering portion of my curriculum. I will be creating lessons that require students to experiment and use their intrapersonal skills to accomplish engineering tasks with a team of classmates. Students will be challenged to create magnetic objects from recyclables that can be manipulated on our classroom whiteboards. The task requires them to keep a small ball in motion for as long as possible and deposit it in the desired location.
While older students will be creating all materials for a magnetic ball wall using recyclables and magnetic tape, my younger learners and those with special needs will need some scaffolding.
The materials I have requested will aid them in participating in a modified project to experiment with gravity and physics.
