Have you ever read a book that you just could not put down? It was your love for reading, interest in reading, and ability to read that all played a part. I want my students to develop this lifelong love for reading!
I have a very eager group of first graders who differ in reading levels, interest, and their enthusiasm for reading.
The foundation for reading needs to start here, in first grade where reading ability is established and can grow and blossom. My students love cooperative learning activities and interaction with their peers. Literature circles will provide my students with this interaction to discuss books and to develop a lifelong love for reading!
My Project
The literature units come with a set of books and activities to engage, challenge, and enrich each student. In literature circles, small groups of students gather to read and discuss the book in depth. The discussion is guided by the students and they discuss events and characters, author's purpose, and personal experiences related to the text. Literature circles provide an opportunity for students to engage in critical thinking and reflection while providing needed peer interaction.
My students need a variety of literature units that include book sets and activities for literature circles and book talks.
These units will increase their critical thinking skills, comprehension, and most importantly, their love for reading! I would love for my first graders to tell me that they could not put a book down because it was so good!
