Crazzzy about keeping track of time!

My students need 10 basic stopwatches, 10 meter sticks, and 10 spring scales so we can perform hands on activities for our unit on motion.

My kids are crazzzzy about hands on activities. I teach 8th grade science and hands on activities are what my students crave. This is a high poverty school, with many students who have a hard time conceptualizing material without something to work with.

My students always perform better when they have worked with material in a hands on manner. The problem is my school is in a very low income part of town. Over 90 percent of our students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The supply cabinet in my classroom is bare, except for the 1 stopwatch which I bought for us to use.

This unit doesn't require very expensive equipment, however, we would love to do activities where we can time ourselves and then use this data to improve graphing skills. The spring scales will help my students understand forces, and the way we measure them. Without these materials, my students will have a difficult time visualizing how force works, or how to record measurements, an essential tool for them as they get ready for high school.

My students really need some supplies so that they can hone their skills for high school and eventually college. Many of them are trying to get motivated about their futures, and with your donations, they will get a better sense of how science can be applied to real life. Your generous gift will make a huge impact in how excited they can get about physical science!
