My students need guided reading books such as, Billy Can Count, Bread for Ducks, and Sam's Painting, that they can practice reading every day.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a group of 17 enthusiastic first graders who walk into the classroom and are excited to begin a day of learning and fun! Walking through the door you'll hear chatter and laughter as students are working together to learn new reading, writing, and math concepts.
My students are budding readers and writers and come to school eager to learn.
As I work at a Title I school, where the majority of our students receive free or reduced price lunch, my students come to school with a wide range of experiences and abilities. Our classroom is a place where students feel safe, important, and loved.
My Project
Every day, my students rush up to me asking if they'll get a new guided reading book for their book box. First graders love to read, and through the donation of guided reading books students will have the opportunity to practice their reading on a daily basis. Students will use reading strategies that they have learned throughout the year and apply them to their own reading. They will develop fluency and decoding skills. These books will encourage them to practice reading and become better readers!
These books are the perfect addition to the classroom to better develop their reading skills.
When we have more books in the classroom, students will have more opportunities to become better readers. My students and myself are looking forward to more books in the classroom!
