Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love knitting! Every week after school I teach a knitting club to 18 kids. None of them had picked up needles before this fall, and now they are all creating great things!
Our school is a high-poverty inner-city school.
I teach full-time art here during the school day. We offer lots of after-school enrichment, and I teach knitting to a small group of students every week. The kids are really excited about knitting, but most can't afford their own supplies.
My Project
The after-school program provides for some of the yarn and needles and I have paid for some myself. However, I will have to collect them in the spring because most of the needles belong to the school. I would love to give my students their very own needles and yarn to take with them for the summer! It would be such a special gift for them.
My students learned to knit quickly and have knitting fever!
