Crazy for Composting! (and Much, Much More)

My students need materials to transform our recently approved garden space into an outdoor learning garden classroom! We need large composting bins, tools, and storage.

My Students

My students (and our entire campus) are curious, innovative, and hard-working. They are a very diverse group, but their differences make them unique and appreciate each other. We love technology, but also love hands-on investigations We crave an outdoor learning space to compliment our technology!

My students are not only culturally diverse, but they come with many personalities and interests.

Our campus focuses on STEM, and understands that students need to be ready for future jobs. It is our calling and mission to provide the students with as many enriching, varied, meaningful experiences as possible. Our Our students are forward-thinking and deserve as many opportunities to grow as we can provide them. They thrive with hands-on learning, and benefit when they can solve real-world problems that our outdoor learning classroom can provide. This outdoor learning classroom will be a great way to incorporate more hands-on problem based learning into our standard curriculum!

My Project

My students (and our entire campus!) will benefit from our school garden. We are not only putting in a raised bed garden, but we are creating an outdoor learning garden classroom! We will be adding a composting area with compost collection with scraps from our cafeteria We have an additional worm bin and viewing area. We are installing a weather station with thermometer and rain gauge, an insect habitat, a sundial to study shadows, some storage, garden tools, and will need a wheelbarrow to lug around all our compost to our plants! The students will have a courtyard garden to safely learn and explore. They will learn that they can make a difference in their lives and others through healthy eating, organic gardening, and giving back to the environment and others with donated produce going to our local food network. We cannot wait to break ground on this innovative space!

Our outdoor learning garden is an asset to our school, nature and community.

We want students to know where their food comes from. Students will learn to take ownership and pride in work. They will learn to be environmentally conscious by using organic soil and pest control methods. We will learn about native plants, and conserving water. Students will connect what they learn in class indoors to real-world applications outside. Students will become problem solvers and independent thinkers.
