Crazy for Calendar Learning in First Grade!

My students need a calendar center to start our day off right and build basic math skills!

My Students

My students are enthusiastic first graders, who are excited to learn and grow this year! They come into my classroom at the beginning of the year brimming with questions and leave at the end with answers and even more questions. They are scientists in their own right and I love that they continually seek to learn more. My school is a Title I school, where a certain majority of the students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch and many have more challenging home lives.

My Project

My students are building their awareness of time and space in first grade. We would love to start our morning meeting off with a brand new calendar and place value center!

I have a calendar but, as I go into my 7th year teaching, it desperately needs to be replaced.

My students will love putting up a new number on the calendar each day and watching as we keep track of our days in school with the place value chart.

It will also be more efficient for each of my students to have their own individual whiteboard eraser during our math learning time. My students have been sharing erasers which simply just takes more time. Our learning time will be more streamlined if they each have their own eraser they are responsible for. Also, the highlighters I have requested will be used during all different time of the day. First graders love to highlight!

Finally, my room is lit by bright florescent lights. I would like to get the soft white light covers to help create a calm and warm environment for learning. Thank you for considering donating to my class as we kick of the new year!
